If I was born in a cell, would the life outside feel more free?
If I was let out of the cell, would everyone let me be?
Isn’t it better to be locked away rather than being scrutinised by people,
Because I wanted to be free of all criticism and fly away like an eagle.
But then I grew up, whether I lived inside a cell protected from the outside world, or out in the open, free for everyone to critique.
In the end, it doesn’t matter.
I realised that if I am confident in myself then I can be free.
As I follow my dreams and drink lots to green tea.
You know, there is no return key.
The poem was inspired by this portrait of a girl looking at a scene we can’t see. It is open to your prediction. You can decide what she is looking at. However, whatever it must be, she seems pretty neutral about it all. I wonder how that can put into in our lives.
I am sure a lot of you can think of many scenarios where you have felt similar. Have we become so numb to the circumstances of our lives that it doesn’t feign us anymore. Are we now mere robots following the same day to day routine of this society. Our eyes show the truth in the depth of our hearts. The truth we can’t speak of and if we do, we are penalized. Would you call this a free society anymore? I won’t.
